Symphony of the Brain 
 
Objectives:
• Identify challenges impacting today’s practice environment, and recognize the role of health professional health and wellness in improving patient outcomes.
• Develop effective strategies for self-care that could be integrated into medical practice.

Joel Popkin, MD is currently Director of Special Services in the St. Vincent Hospital residency program, where he works with medical residents and students to enrich their clinical, research, and writing skills. He also coaches their competitions at state and national competitions. He has had a long-time interest in humanism in medicine and hopes to help integrate art and music into residency training.

Joel’s recent awards include Physician of the Year, Pillar Community Award, and Teacher of the Year (St. Vincent Hospital), Laureate of the Year Award (Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Physicians), and Clinician of the Year (Worcester District Medical Society). He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the UMass Medical School.
