 The Promise and Pitfalls of Transforming Health through Technology and Information

Advances in technology have changed the way people, health care providers, government and non-governmental organizations obtain, disseminate and process information. Moreover, the internet and social media have empowered individuals and clinicians to immediately access and share health information in their daily lives.  The Promise and Pitfalls of Transforming Health through Technology and Information will convene policy leaders, researchers, and public health experts to explore the numerous opportunities and challenges of technology in public health and technology’s role in improving population health.

Activity Objectives:  
After participating in this activity, you should be able to:
  • Identify the latest public health and patient care technologies and capabilities
  • Illustrate how innovative use of electronic information and telecommunications technologies can advance health and healthcare delivery
  • Demonstrate how technology can be utilized to monitor outbreaks and to manage chronic diseases
  • Assess the challenges and concerns associated with the use of modern health technologies and mobile applications
  • Discuss the best practices for using technology in clinical interactions
