Medication Assisted Treatment: Improving Access to Evidence-Based Care

The opioid epidemic continues to plague both our nation and state.  Treatment for opioid use disorder is key to help change the direction of this epidemic.  This summit will convene leaders in medicine, public health, policy, industry, and the community to discuss strategies to expand availability and access to evidence - based treatments for opioid addiction, and to identify collaborative strategies to increase positive treatment outcomes.

Activity Objectives:  
After participating in this activity, you should be able to:

  • Discuss the basics of medicated assisted treatment (MAT) in the treatment of opioid use disorders, including the pros and cons of current medications used
  • Identify counseling techniques and behavioral therapies to augment treatment
  • Assess the barriers to treatment and identify resources and policy changes needed to expand access and availability of medication assisted treatment
  • Evaluate models of care in the treatment of opioid use disorder
  • Advocate for appropriate treatment services for patients with addictions

The Massachusetts Medical Society designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This activity meets the criteria of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for risk management study, including 3.5 credits in effective pain management and prescribing of controlled substances.
