Description:

Physicians have become increasingly aware of burnout within their profession.  While physicians, by and large, have the competence to understand if they or a peer is exhibiting symptoms of burnout, corrective and preventative measures to cope with the issue are emerging but not yet commonly deployed or practiced. Physicians will learn the most updated and effective methods for dealing with burnout and the importance and implementation of supporting each other through a crisis.

The lecture will provide up-to-date information as discovered and published by the Task Force on Burnout, recently established by the Massachusetts Medical Society, jointly with the Massachusetts Health and Hospital Association. The question-and-answer session at the completion of the lecture will allow physicians to further probe and explore the effects of physician burnout and methods by which to recognize and curtail the symptoms and effects.

Guest Speaker: Alain A. Chaoui, MD, President MMS

As a result of participating in activity, learners should be able to:
1. Explore the reason and identify signs leading to physician burnout
2. Develop strategies to help mitigate this trend and promote wellbeing
3. Discuss support systems for physicians
