They are also aware of to recognize potentially dangerous situations and about to best protect themselves, their staff and their patients who may be affected by violent events. In addition, they do not know many of the resources that may be available to them in the hospitals and community they work with.

As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:
• Understand national trends in workplace violence and active shooter events.
• Describe events of violence in hospitals and against physicians and violence in hospitals overall.
• Discuss proactive actions for physicians and practices.
• Identify how to respond to active shooter situations.
